Die siebzehn, meist schwarz-weissen Doppelbilder von Mark Williams wirken wie eingelassene Fenster in den drei Ausstellungsräumen Schiff, Altar und Chor. Eine innere Architektur, losgelöst vom barocken Bau zieht gleichförmig linear durch die ganze Klosterkirche.
Mark Williams Bilder, mit Oelfarbe auf plastifiziertem Papieruntergrund gerakelt, erinnern an Fotografien. Unschärfe wechselt mit Brillanz, Tiefe und Vordergrund spielen ineinander.
„The Grid and The Gesture“ ergibt sich aus der Herstellungstechnik. Auf das stren-ge Raster, das Williams mittels Tape unter dem Papier verklebt, reagiert er mit der freien Geste durch den Rakel. Dadurch entstehen Fenster, durch die man gerne weiter blickt.
The seventeen mostly black & white double paintings by Mark appear as recessed windows in the three exhibition rooms of nave, altar and chancel. A kind of interior architecture, detached from Baroque structures, sweeps with a uniform linearity through the entire convent church.
Mark Williams’ pictures of squeegeed oil paint on a plasticized paper background remind of photographs. Out–of–focus images alternate with brilliance; depth and foreground merge playfully into one another.
